GENERAL RELEASE FEBRUARY 2022

Magnetic Analysis Corporation (MAC®) Acquires TacTic™ Division of Laboratory Testing Inc.

Magnetic Analysis Corporation (MAC®), a designer and producer of nondestructive test instruments and systems since 1928, is pleased to announce the asset acquisition of TacTic™, a Division of Laboratory Testing Inc. (LTI), effective February 28, 2022. Originally founded as TAC Technical Instrument Corp. in 1962, the company became part of LTI’s operations in 2018. This acquisition broadens MAC’s range of NDT systems to include automated and specialized immersion, "spin the tube" ultrasonic test systems designed to detect surface and subsurface defects in round tube, pipe, and bar. These systems are particularly beneficial for metal producers seeking a cost-effective solution for testing small batches or frequently changing diameter sizes.

In announcing the acquisition, MAC® President and CEO Dudley Boden stated, “This is a natural fit for us as we have partnered with TacTic™ for years, supplying our Echomac® Ultrasonic Electronics for integration with TacTic’s systems. Both companies have a long history of helping metal producers achieve reliable, high-quality inspections tailored to their needs, and many of TacTic’s customers are also customers of MAC. Support will be handled through our existing global field network of engineers and experienced representatives. With this wider support network and synergies within our customer base, we expect to grow this into a substantial product line, bringing this technology to customers worldwide.”

Commenting on the acquisition, Fred Beck, who has served as VP of Sales for TacTic™ at LTI and is the son of TacTic’s co-founder, Kenneth H. Beck, shared his enthusiasm: “I am very excited about the future and will continue to play an active role in this new venture. It presents numerous opportunities, as both companies have developed established products that complement each other with little overlap. MAC’s instruments provide a much-needed source for ultrasonic instrumentation designed for production testing of tubular and bar products. Additionally, their domestic and international sales and service teams will allow TacTic customers to receive more efficient support. I am also pleased that our companies share a history of family ownership.”

Beck will assist MAC during the transition, contributing his technical expertise and extensive industry experience. TacTic operations in Trevose, PA, will be relocated to MAC’s Elmsford, NY headquarters and manufacturing facility. This move will enhance sales opportunities for TacTic systems while providing customers with the advantages of local support, service, and calibration through MAC’s global sales and technical staff. Additionally, MAC will offer leasing options, a benefit previously unavailable to TacTic customers.
