News NEW DESIGN ROTOFLUX® FOR FLUX LEAKAGE INSPECTION OF API PIPEAugust 2, 2007New Design Rotoflux® for flux leakage inspection of API tube MAC recently shipped a flux leakage inspection system designed to test up to 16" (406.4 mm) diameter tube, typical of API applications, for longitudinal defects. The system includes electronics with 24 channels derived from 24 separate test probes that rotate around the tube. The test screen displays all 24 channels of OD and 24 channels of ID, simultaneously. A strip chart display shows the maximum ID and OD signals from any of the 24 channels during a specified millisecond period of time. Thresholds for ID and OD can be set independently and each channel can be viewed separately on screen with zoom-in capability. The mechanics for the system include a slide mechanism with 3 preset stop positions for the rotating test head 1)testing on line; 2)calibrating off-line at the built in calibration station for set up and checking standards, and 3)completely off line for exchanging pole pieces for different sizes, and other maintenance. The calibration station, parallel to the test line, but integrated into the welded structural steel frame of the full test system, has its own pinch stands and conveyor. A jib crane is also incorporated into the system for handling the standard piece for calibration.
MAC has also recently supplied a Rotoflux system designed to detect both longitudinal and transverse defects in tube. The design incorporates magnetizing poles placed in a fixed position, perpendicular to the axis of the material under test, for detecting transverse defects, along with an encircling, rotating type headplate with magnets and sensors for detecting longitudinal defects.
