ULTRASONIC TESTERS TO DETECT SURFACE, SUBSURFACE AND DIMENSIONAL FLAWS

Ultrasonic testing equipment uses high-frequency sound vibrations are transmitted into material by an ultrasonic transducer. The test instrument then analyzes the ultrasonic signals which are received using either a pulse-echo or through-transmission method. In the pulse-echo mode, the transmitting transducer also serves as the ultrasonic receiver and analyzes the reflected signal with respect to amplitude and time.

In the through-transmission mode, the ultrasonic signal is received by a separate transducer which analyzes the amplitude loss of signal. These ultrasonic NDT methods will indicate material defects such as longitudinal and transverse cracks, inclusions and others as well as ID/OD dimensioins and dimensional changes such as thickness and ovality.

Echomac Ultrasonic Rotary Tester

Echomac Ultrasonic Rotary Tester

High speed ultrasonic rotary testers provide multiple test configurations for tube or bar up to 220 millimeters in diameter.

ECHOMAC® Rotary Ultrasonic System Rotating ultrasonic transducers are available for shear-wave configuration (surface and subsurface defects) and compression-wave configuration (internal defects and dimensional measurements such as wall thickness.) Models are available for inspecting material from 50 mm to 220 mm in diameter at test speeds up to 200 fpm, depending on the size and condition of the material. Rotary ultrasonic systems can be combined with eddy-current instrumentation to meet API, ASTM, Mill, and Customer specifications.

Typical Application:

Used with FD-4 electronics for non-destructive testing of bars, tube and Pipe.

ECHOMAC® FD-4
Multi Channel Ultrasonic Tester

Echomac® FD-4 A-Scan/Strip Chart display for 0.3mm deep OD surface notch

Echomac® FD-4 A-Scan/Strip Chart display for 0.3mm deep OD surface notch

Provides up to 32 ultrasonic testing channels with outstanding performance for in-line flaw detection and thickness and inside diameter measurement, in a Windows® XP platform.

User configured flaw detection or thickness gauging for each channel. Features four independent flaw gates in each ultrasonic channel, simultaneous A-scan and strip chart display of up to 16 channels and adjustable pulse firing sequence to avoid crosstalk in multi-channel applications.

The flicker free A-scan display captures non-repetitive events such as flaws of short duration, even in very high speed ultrasonic testing systems, typical of rotating transducer heads. The strip chart display shows the peak values of signals within each threshold gate, for up to 16 channels.

Display modes include basic sample mode, persistence mode with adjustable decay time, and a dynamic 3-D mode where the prior signals fade into the background as the displacement of the transducer and reflector changes. Full network support is now available for viewing and controlling the instrument from a remote desktop. The software also includes a test signal recorder, end suppression, tracking system, production logging, multi-channel view, and channel mapper with alarm routing screen to assign multiple thresholds to the desired output devices.

Typical Application:

Flaw, thickness or ID diameter detection on or off line, for tube, bar, or plate. Well suited for new or older installations in need of upgrading, the FD-4 instrumentation can be used with MAC's Echomac Rotary Ultrasonic Transducer assembly as well as with other existing immersion or squirter type "spin the tube" installations.
